LAIKA
A downloadable game for Windows
Our existence is in danger. Long ago, conflict arised between Us and the Enemy. So long ago in fact, no one can tell why anymore. Making peace hasn't been an option for as long as I had been alive.
Countless battles have been fought, bloodshed like nothing this world has seen before resulted in near-extinction of our race. During this time - a scientific breakthrough. We dubbed this "Project Laika". Our dwindling numbers urged us to reach for drastic measures: rapid advances in genetic engineering technology allowed us to turn to this so-called "man's best friend" for aid.
With hope in our hearts again, we were allowed to push the Enemy back. Employing our noble Laikas to pilot purpose-built war machines led us to many decisive victories in the battlefield. Our victory is imminent. We have the last remaining enemy fortress in our sights. Will we prevail in this next battle?
Game Guide
We had no time to implement a tutorial, but we have a complex game, thus here is a short guide.
Goal:
It's a simple 1v1 scenario.
You & your enemy have home bases. To win the game you must find & destroy the enemy's base and protect yours at all costs. There are a few endings and a few strategic shortcuts for some replay value.
Initial Steps:
To build your forces, you need Scrap - the game's currency. To collect scrap you need the "Werewolf" mech - the first one you can afford.
Take these steps to deploy your mech to the map:
1. Assemble the mech (Assemble Screen)
2. Select the cockpit, select a Laika, Click Equip (Equip Screen)
3. Deploy the mech.
Map Gameplay:
Green circles - your mechs. Enemy mechs are red.
Left Click - Mech selection. You can select more than one by holding CONTROL.
Right Click - Order Movement. Hold CONTROL to set waypoints.
You should start by gathering scrap. Lead your Werewolf to a nearby scrap pile and it will collect. Then lead it back to your base, it will return to the hanger with the scrap. Quickly you'll acquire enough Scrap to build a second Werewolf or even a mech that can fight.
Once you have a few mechs, start exploring the map. When you encounter enemy mechs, those that have weapons equipped will start engaging each other.
Be careful! The enemy is searching for your base just as you are searching for theirs. A wise commander would sacrifice their mech to not reveal their base.
If you are lucky, your mechs will find blueprints - the research currency of the game. You can research new technology to assemble more powerful equipment.
Side Notes:
- due to the limited time, the balance is very simplistic, the enemy adapts to the player with some delay
- impact of researched parts is very minimal, because we ran out of time to properly visualize what impact it would have
- don't hesitate to explore the game folder, it has all the amazing art Charzea drew and music Ravitex composed.
